Cottonwood Group Home, Ltd. is a non profit, community based treatment group home, located in Polk County, Wisconsin. The rural setting is seven miles from the city of Amery. Cottonwood provides housing exclusively for females ages twelve to seventeen. Cottonwood has been incorporated since 1976 and is licensed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.
Cottonwood provides treatment for children within the familial therapeutic environment. Through structured life style and programs, we attempt to create an atmosphere conducive to growth and ego strength development. Cottonwood is treatment oriented, as well as custodial, with the main form of treatment referred to as milieu, based primarily on responsibility and accountability for actions.
The environment necessary for treatment must therefore be a benign and accepting one in which morale is high and one that communicates a feeling of security to the child that results is self-expression and learning as well as insight concerning interpersonal problems. We offer them a place to live, a group in which to function and a set of tasks that are within their capacity to learn to perform. Cottonwood is a place to try to meet ordinary requirements of social living under manageable conditions, because they have not been able to do this in their own reality situation.
